Michael Keegan has been at RED Digital Cinema for nearly 10 years and is currently the Director of Marketing and Partnerships (call sign: Snakeoil).

During Cine Gear, Tabb and Michael escaped to RED Studios in Hollywood to record this interview. Keegan shared how he joined forces with Jarred and the RED team and gave insight into RED’s inner workings and how they continue to innovate and push the limits of digital cinema.

One of Tabb Firchau’s early aerial systems, fitted with the RED ONE.

The RED ONE hit the scene in 2007/2008 and was a huge leap forward in the digital cinema landscape. When the EPIC was released, the camera literally took flight. Tabb commented, “You [RED] came out with the EPIC, and my life became about ‘how in the hell do I scrounge together the money to buy an EPIC M; I need one of these instantly.’”

At Freefly, we consider RED to be among a shortlist of our favorite companies. Freefly customers who shoot with RED experience the marriage of our gear with RED cameras. Tabb and Michael talk about how RED began small and has grown, but still strives to push limits and keep innovating.
